Credit Repair

Credit repair companies seem to have been springing up in recent years claiming they can easily improve your credit report.

You should be wary of companies like this.

Many say they can remove negative things from your credit report, such as bankruptcies and County Court Judgments. However, if these items are accurate they cannot be removed.

It may appear for a month or so that the credit repair company has managed to remove some of these records but if they should be there they will reappear again.

If you want to improve your credit report the only way to do it is the old fashioned way - paying off judgments and bad debt. Take a look at our Improving your Credit Report page for tips on where to start.

What if Something on my Credit Report is Wrong?

If you think that a mistake has been made on your credit report contact the credit reporting agency detailing what the mistake is and why you think it is incorrect.

If you think that your credit report suggests that you have been a victim of identity theft, you should contact the police. You should also report the incident to CIFAS. This is an organization established by the lending industry to deal with fraud issues. They can put an entry on your credit report for protection.
