Shooting Clay Pigeons is a Lot of Fun

My husband was so excited when he handed me my birthday gift this past summer. I had no idea what it was because he usually gets me a nice piece of jewelry. I knew there was no way a necklace or ring was in the envelope he handed me, so I was a bit curious. Okay, I was a lot curious. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that there would be a certificate for clay pigeon shooting lessons inside. I thought perhaps tickets to a theater show, or even for a cruise, though that last one was wishful thinking.

Like I said, I would never have guessed it was to get lessons on how to shoot clay pigeons. It turns out my husband knows me better than I know myself though. I thanked him, and he laughed. He told me then that he knew I was thinking it was a horrid gift. I was thinking it was bad, but not quite horrid. It was definitely not my favorite gift, but that attitude changed once I took advantage of those lessons. He knew that I would go through with it no matter what, and he also knew that I would love it once I tried my hand at it.

I went on my own to the lessons even though he told me he would pay for someone else to go if I wanted to take a friend. I did not want anyone else there though. I just wanted to get it over with. As soon as I held the gun in my hand after learning the safety rules and took my first shot, I was hooked. I had no idea that it would be as liberating as it was, and I definitely did not think it would be as fun as it was either. Now my husband and I shoot together, and he still teases me about that horrid gift that turned into my favorite hobby.
